The new UltiMate™ 3000 Intelligent nano-HPLC system has been installed. A method to conduct 2-dimensional liquid chromatography (2D LC-MS/MS or MudPIT) analysis has been established. MudPIT stands for Multidimensional Protein Identification Technology that is used for the separation and identification of complex protein mixtures. The MudPIT technique involves digesting the complex protein sample into its constituent peptides in solution, which are then separated with two liquid column chromatography steps: The first being a strong cationic exchange, and the second being reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). MudPIT has been used to analyze the proteomes of organisms without gel electrophoresis separation.
